This installation guide is designed as a guide for fitting an Optimise Automotive boot lining kit.

Your Kit - What’s Included:

Your parcel should contain seven (or eight) boards:

  • 1x base board (trimmed 6mm MDF)

  • 1x battery access panel (trimmed 6mm MDF) (optional extra)

  • 1x back board (trimmed 6mm MDF)

  • 1x right hand side board (trimmed 6mm MDF)

  • 1x left hand side board (trimmed 6mm MDF)

  • 1x petrol tank cover front (trimmed hardboard)

  • 1x boot lid cover (trimmed hardboard)

  • 1x side support (uncovered 6mm MDF)

+ Fixings & fastenings

Tools Needed (Recommended):

  • Drill

  • Ph2 cross-head screwdriver

  • Pen

  • 3.0 metal drill bit

Assembly:

Before you install the boot liner into your Classic Mini you will need to pre-assemble the base board, by attaching the side support panel (the small uncovered 6mm thick piece of MDF) to the base board.

Using the 3.5 x 20mm screws provided attach the side panel support to the outside of the right hand side of the bottom board (as circled on the photo below) - lining the bottom of the side support up with the bottom of the soft wood (that is already attached to the base board, underneath the board). This will create a barrier on the top of the bottom board, which will stop your right hand side board from moving around (once everything is installed into the boot).

Classic Mini boot lining kit assembly instructions.

Installation - Boot Lining Boards:

  1. Remove your spare wheel and battery.

  2. We recommend relocating the number plate light wire into the centre of the boot to prevent the wire from becoming crushed between the petrol tank cover front board and the boot lid, when the boot is shut. The wire can be ran along the floor of the boot to the centre and then fed into the boot lid under the framework.

  3. Place the back board in place. The edge with the cut-out is the bottom edge. The board sits on the rear subframe mounting bolt heads with the cut-out section resting on the top of the bolt heads and the tab (to the left) sits flush against the left side of the left hand side bolt head. This will ensure that the back board is aligned correctly, top to bottom and left to right. If the back board is not installed and lined up correctly the fixing plates will not line-up correctly with the other panels.

  4. Place your spare wheel & battery back in the boot.

  5. Place the base board in place. On the right hand side, make sure that the right hand side of the base board is flush against the right hand side wheel arch, leaving space between the petrol tank and the base board (on the left hand side). On the left hand side of the base board, make sure that the board is sitting on the standard 12”x5.5” spare wheel. Placing the base board correctly on the right hand side (against the wheel arch) and on the spare wheel (on the left) will balance the board and ensure that it is level.

  6. Place the right hand side board into place. Make sure it sits on top of the bottom board, flush against the bottom board side support (that you attached prior to installation) and also flush against the metal bracket in the top back corner. The magnet (located in the top rear corner) will attach to the metal bracket (that is located/attached to the top corner of the back board), aligning the board correctly and securing it in place. As you install the right hand side board you will hear the magnets attach.

  7. Place the left hand side board into place. Make sure it sits beside and below the bottom board, on the spare wheel and also also flush against the metal brackets in the back corners (one at the top and one at the bottom). The magnets (located in the top and bottom rear corner) will attach to the metal brackets (that are located/attached to the top and bottom corners of the back board), aligning the board correctly and securing the board in place. As you install the left hand side board you will hear the magnets attach.

  8. Place the petrol tank cover front board into place. Make sure it sits in front of the left hand side board and inside the boot around all three edges, the hook tape (attached to the wooden brackets on the back of the left hand side board) will attach to the carpet/loop tape (on the rear of the petrol tank cover board), aligning the left hand side board and petrol tank cover board correctly, also securing them in place.

Installation - Boot Lid Cover:

We recommend that you use the 4.0x1" pan head self tapping screws and screw cups provided to install our boot lid cover.

  1. Locate the screw holes that are already drilled through on the boot lid cover and make a hole in the trimming.

  2. Then place the boot lid cover on the inner boot lid and make a mark through each of the holes, onto the surface of the inner boot lid (you will need to poke a hole through the trimming using the holes as a guide).

  3. Move the boot lid cover out the way and drill the required holes, using a 3.0 HSS (metal) drill bit, where you have just made marks.

  4. Place the boot lid cover back in the installation location and line up the holes on the cover with the holes you have just drilled on the inner boot lid.

  5. Finally, using the pan head self tapping screws and washers provided, screw the boot lid cover to the inner boot lid.

  6. If you Mini is fitted with the factory boot alarm sensor (the panel in the top right hand corner of the boot opening) we recommend bending it back a little to allow for the additional thickness of the boot lid cover.
