Classic Mini Carpet Kit Installation Guide

This installation guide is designed as a guide for fitting an Optimise Automotive carpet kit.

Your Kit - What’s Included:

Your parcel should contain seven pieces:

  • 1x front floor carpet (main floor)

  • 1x rear floor carpet (main floor)

  • 1x lower bulk head carpet

  • 1x cross member carpet

  • 1x driver side inner front wheel arch & under driver side door carpet

  • 1x passenger side inner front wheel arch & under driver side door carpet

  • 1x under rear seat (subframe mounting panel) carpet

  • 1x gear gaiter

  • 1x handbrake gaiter

Tools Needed (Recommended):

  • Clean lint free cloth

  • Grease removal cleaning agent (such as panel wipe)

  • Contact spray adhesive (high temperature resistant)

  • Sharp knife

Preparation:

Before installing your new carpet kit you will need to remove front seats, front seat belt receivers, front seat belt lower mountings (located at the base of the B pillars), the gear knob & gear gaiter (if required), handbrake handle cover & handbrake gaiter (if required), the original carpet kit, the original underlay and also any OEM sound deadening padding.

Pre-Installation:

Clean the area you will be sticking/spraying with contact adhesive using a clean lint free cloth and a grease removal cleaning agent. Allow the cleaning agent to dry and/or evaporate naturally.

Installation:

The first piece to install is the under rear seat (subframe mounting panel) carpet:

  1. Using a contact spray adhesive spray glue onto the back of the piece.

  2. Using the same spray adhesive spray glue onto the subframe mounting panel, covering the entire surface. Or in other words spray the glue where the piece will be stuck to the Mini.

  3. Wait for the spray glue to go touch dry (tacky) before continuing.
Please Note It is vitally important that you wait for the spray glue to go touch dry before attempting to stick the covers in place. If you do not wait for the glue to be touch dry the covers will not stick correctly.

  4. Stick the piece in place, aligning it in and around the obstacles, using the shapes of the panel.

The next piece to install are the inner front wheel arch & under driver side door carpet pieces:

  1. Using a contact spray adhesive spray glue onto the back of the pieces.

  2. Using the same spray adhesive spray glue onto the inner wheel arches and under door areas, covering the entire surfaces. Or in other words spray the glue where the pieces will be stuck to the Mini.

  3. Wait for the spray glue to go touch dry (tacky) before continuing.
Please Note It is vitally important that you wait for the spray glue to go touch dry before attempting to stick the covers in place. If you do not wait for the glue to be touch dry the covers will not stick correctly.

  4. Stick the pieces in place, aligning them in and around the obstacles, using the shapes of the panel.

  5. Trim off the excess carpet from around the door opening, flush with the door opening (do not wrap the carpet around the door opening edge).

The next piece to install is the lower bulk head carpet:

  1. Using a contact spray adhesive spray glue onto the back of the piece.

  2. Using the same spray adhesive spray glue onto the lower bulk head, covering the entire surface.

The next piece to install is the cross member carpet:

  1. Using a contact spray adhesive spray glue onto the back of the piece.

  2. Using the same spray adhesive spray glue onto the cross member, covering the entire surface.

  4. Stick the piece in place, aligning it in and around the obstacles, using the shapes and holes for the seat brackets of the panel.

The final pieces to install are the main floor pieces (the front floor carpet and rear floor carpet). These panels simply fit into place without glue and you align them in and around the obstacles, using the shapes and holes of the panels.

With regards to the front seat belt buckle fixing holes (on the rear floor carpet), you have two options for different models of the Mini. Both options are pre-cut in the closed cell foam, but not trimmed in the carpet - please select which option you require and cut the carpet (make a hole in the carpet using a sharp knife), to allow the bolt to go through the carpet and into the fixings on the Mini floor.

With the carpet kit installed all that is left to do, is install the gaiters.

  1. To install the gear gaiter simply slip the gaiter over the gear stick and the velcro will stick to our carpet kit.

  2. Reinstall the gear knob.

  3. To install the handbrake gaiter simply slip the gaiter over the handbrake handle and the velcro will stick to our carpet kit.

  4. Reinstall (if required) the handbrake handle cover.

Post-Installation:

With your new carpet kit now installed, you can reinstall the front seat belt receivers, front seat belt lower mountings (located at the base of the B pillars) and front seats.
