Classic Mini Dash Trim Kit Installation Guide

This installation guide is designed to help you fit your Optimise Automotive dash trim panel kit.

If you have any questions during installation or need any assistance, please get in touch and I'll be happy to help.

Your Kit - What’s Included:

Your parcel should contain three pieces (MK1 & MK2, Mini Van and Mini Pickup) or five pieces (MK3 onwards):

  • 1x driver side binnacle dash liner

  • 1x passenger side binnacle dash liner

  • 1x padded dash tray liner

  • 1x driver side under dash tray liner support tray (MK3 onwards only)

  • 1x passenger side under dash tray liner support tray (MK3 onwards only)

Tools Needed (Recommended):

No tools are required to install a dash trim panel kit.

Preparation:

You should install your dash trim panel kit after you have installed all of the auxiliaries in and around the dash area, including wiring and heater pipes.

The dash liners should be installed after you have installed the clock binnacle and/or padded dash rails.

It can be difficult to remove the binnacle dash liner after installation without damaging it, therefore I recommend ensuring that everything hidden behind the binnacle dash liner has been correctly installed and/or connected before installing the binnacle dash liner.

Pre-Installation:

Before installing your new dash liner kit, you will need to remove:

  • Fresh air vent cowling's (if your Mini is fitted with fresh air vents)

  • Front door seals

  • Original dash liner kit

You will not need to remove the air vents, as the dash liner will fit around and over them.

Installation:

Installing the Under Dash Tray Liner Support Trays (MK3 onwards only):

First, install the lower dash tray liner support trays. They simply slide into position (one either side):

  • In front of the windscreen heater pipes.

  • On the front edge, they fit underneath the dash rail metal edge and sit on the shelf.

  • For reference, the support tray with the cut-out is the driver side tray and the cut-out fits around the steering wheel column bracket.

Installing the Padded Dash Tray Liner:

Next, install the padded dash tray liner. It simply fits into position:

  • In front of the windscreen heater pipes.

  • On the front edge, it fits underneath the dash rail metal edge.

  • Along the rear edge, fold the additional material upwards and around the heater pipes, wiring and other components.

Installing the Binnacle Dash Liners:

Finally, install the binnacle dash liners (one at a time). Both liners fit in the same way and simply slide into position:

  • Underneath the metal top rail lip.

  • On top of the lower dash tray liner.

  • In front of the windscreen heater pipes.

  • The straight edge is the top edge and the shaped edge is the bottom edge.

To secure the side of each liner:

  • Remove the rubber trim from the door opening.

  • Wrap the dash liner tab around the bodywork.

  • Reinstall the rubber door seal trim, trapping the dash liner tab securely in place.

Post-Installation:

With your new dash trim panel kit installed, you can now reinstall the fresh air vent cowling's (if your Mini is fitted with fresh air vents).
